I Step Into The Air It Holds
6 — 9 November 2025
Kabinett Visarte / Zurich, Switzerland
With this exhibition, I present a new series of works continuing my exploration of psychological resonance of abstract forms, this time focusing on the notion of universal trust. The always present theme which gained new relevance when a long-planned FRISH-Reihe duo show unexpectedly became a solo. At the heart of the exhibition stands the painting I Step into the Air It Holds (2025, acrylic on canvas). The title is inspired by a line from the poet Hilde Domin: „Ich setzte den Fuss in die Luft und sie trug.“ [I set my foot into the air and it carried me]. Rather than translating her words literally, I draw from their spirit and from Domin’s life-affirming stance. She is Dichterin des Dennoch, who once said: “Ja, ich bin ein Dennoch-Mensch! Mein Glaube ist, dass man dennoch Vertrauen, dennoch Zuversicht haben kann.” [Yes, I am a nevertheless-person! My belief is that one can still have trust, still have confidence.]
The series of five linoleum block prints Shape Studies: Suspension (2025, printing ink on paper) embodies the tension between intention and chance. Composed of three or more repeated shapes, the forms fall into place seemingly at random, yet each composition is deliberately selected. Do they feel light or heavy, falling or suspended?
At the center of the space, a collective printmaking station is set. The framework is defined, yet the outcome is left open. This shared act of making invites trust in the process. Every participant co-creates the artwork without knowing the next step, signing the work without knowing the outcome. Belief, that one can trust nevertheless, is a condition for growth and self-reinvention. Sometimes it is a condition for survival. When things seem stable and predictable, there is an inclination to hold on to outcomes and plans. Yet everything changes. Even the self changes: body, thoughts, feelings. To care without depending, to rise after falling, to trust the process, to believe in cause and effect - this is the quiet courage I seek.
Rather than presenting a conclusion, this exhibition offers a work in progress, reflecting on trust as a condition for growth, transformation, and willingness to move forward into uncertainty.
